Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin was not on the field today because of an illness, coach Brad Childress said after practice.
Asked if the rookie has the much-feared H1N1 virus, Childress said, "I'm not an epidemiologist."
Given the concerns about the sickness it would not be a surprise that the Vikings would tell a player who feels ill to stay at home. The fact Harvin is sick again has to be somewhat a cause for concern.
Harvin missed the Vikings' rookie minicamp in May when he became so ill during a layover at the Atlanta airport that he had to be hospitalized because of dehydration and a virus. Harvin then was sent home from the rookie symposium in June after he told the medical staff that he wasn't feeling well.
Harvin, the Vikings' first round-pick in the April draft, is tied for the team lead with eight receptions for 77 yards and has a team-leading two touchdowns in two games. He also was used last Sunday for one play as the quarterback out of the Wildcat offense.
