The Tiny Kushner evening of short plays at the Guthrie included, from left, Valeri Mudek, Jim Lichtscheidl, Kate Eifrig and J.C. Cutler / Star Tribune photo by Tom Sweeney

The Guthrie Theater has posted a "year in pictures" on its website. Go here to check out still photos from Guthrie-produced shows as well as those hosted at the Guthrie but produced by others. The pictures remind us that while the game-changing Tony Kushner festival dominated 2009 at the theater, there was plenty else on the plate as well.

One theme that emerges from the photo gallery is the number of outstanding women performers this year at the Guthrie. Examples abound, and include this list of some of my favorites:

Candy Buckley in Edward Albee's "A Delicate Balance"

Sally Wingert in Samuel Beckett's "Happy Days" (Star Tribune photo, above, by Steve Rice)

Virginia Burke in Frank Theatre's "By the Bog of Cats"

Greta Oglesby in Kushner's musical "Caroline, or Change" ( Star Tribune photo, above, by Tom Wallace)

Kate Eifrig in an evening of short Kushner plays

Tina Fabrique in "Ella" (Photo by Ed Krieger)

What did you like best this year at the Guthrie?
