Cornerback Cedric Griffin has been named the Vikings recipient of the Ed Block Courage award.

Griffin suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the NFC Championship Game last January and spent the offseason rehabbing the injury. After missing training camp, Griffin returned in Week 3 against Detroit but tore his right ACL in the following game against the New York Jets. He has spent the remainder of the season on injured reserve.

A second-round pick by the Vikings in 2006, Griffin has played in 67 games, including playoffs. He has seven interceptions and ranks third in franchise history for forced fumbles by a defensive back with 10.

The Ed Block Courage Award is named after the long-time head trainer for the Baltimore Colts and a respected humanitarian dedicated to helping children. Recipients are often players who have overcome devastating injuries or tragedies in their personal lives to return to top-level competition in the NFL.

Recipients are selected by their teammates. Griffin, along with one player from each of the other 31 NFL teams, will be honored at a dinner on March 8 in Baltimore.
