Great Sand Dunes: if you go

Great Sand Dunes National Park is open year-round. Travel information is available through the Alamosa Convention & Visitors Bureau (1-719-589-9386; alamosa.org).

Details on the park are at nps.gov/grsa, or call the park's Visitor Center at 1-719-378-6395.

Sandboards and sand sleds are available for rent or purchase at Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa (1-719-589-9759). They are also available for rent from April to October at the Oasis Store just outside the park entrance (1-719-378-2222).
