Julianna Iafallo scored in the seventh round of a shootout, giving Ohio State a 2-1 triumph over the Gophers women's hockey team on Saturday at Ridder Arena. The result is considered a 1-1 tie, but the Buckeyes earned an extra point in the WCHA standings for winning the shootout.

With the tie, the fourth-ranked Gophers (17-5-3, 13-4-2-3 WCHA) extended their all-time unbeaten streak against Ohio State to 44 games (41-0-3).

In her second career start, Emma May made 25 saves for the Gophers, who outshot Ohio State 36-26.

"Emma played really well in net," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "Our goaltending has been a little inconsistent. … She played really well here tonight in particular, facing a lot of shots. I thought the team played really well in front of her, too. She should be really proud of how she played this weekend."

Sydney Baldwin's second goal of the season gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead with 10:22 left in the second period, beating Ohio State's Kassidy Sauve, who made 35 saves.

"We had our chances, but Sauve shut the door there. She's an exceptional goalie,'' Frost said.

Ohio State (11-12-3, 5-12-3) tied it 1:27 into the third period on Katie Matheny's goal.

In the shootout, the Gophers' Lee Stecklein and Ohio State's Dani Sadek scored in the first round. The next five rounds were scoreless, then Suave made a save on Baldwin in the seventh, before Iafallo beat May to take the shootout.

"Certainly, you don't want to lose in a shootout, especially when it goes that many shooters, but overall I'm really happy with the weekend," said Frost, whose team won 2-1 on Friday.
