Gophers update: Kickoff time set for Illinois game; note on medical redshirts
November 15, 2015 — 2:54pm
The Big Ten waited until after last night's games to pick the game times for next week. The Gophers learned they will play Illinois at 11 a.m., on Saturday. That game will be televised on ESPNNews.
After three consecutive night games, the Gophers will be back to morning football. I believe the kickoff time for the Nov. 28 game against Wisconsin will be announced Monday.
Coach Tracy Claeys said today that he doesn't expect any of the injured players to be ready for the Illinois game. Claeys said the Gophers expect to get a medical redshirt for safety Damarius Travis (hamstring) and that the team hopes to get one for safety Ace Rogers (knee) as well.
I'll have more on the Gophers in tonight's first editions.
Randy Johnson has been covering college football in one form or another since the early 1990s. He was the Star Tribune’s main college football editor on the copy desk for nearly two decades before returning to reporting in August 2017 as the beat writer for Gophers football. Randy has covered a Rose Bowl (Joe Paterno’s 1994 Penn State team), and he covered a John Gutekunst-coached Gophers team that missed out on the 1990 Weed-Eater Bowl. Email Randy to talk about the Gophers.
Coach P.J. Fleck is honoring former Gophers tackle Nick Connelly, who died Wednesday, with a helmet decal and lime green wristbands. The Gophers also have a helmet decal in honor of Maryland's Jordan McNair, who died after an offseason workout.
