The Gophers baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday with Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. The Gophers fell 3-2 in 11 innings in the first game but bounced back for a 4-2 victory in the second game.

Matt Halloran went 4-for-7 with two RBI and a run scored for the Gophers (23-18 overall, 7-4 Big Ten). Kyle Geason knocked in two runs in the second game and went 4-for-9 in the two games. Jake Bergren went 3-for-7 with a RBI, while Andy Henkemeyer was 2-for-9 in the leadoff spot, had a double and scored two runs.

Four Gophers pitchers saw action in the two games. D.J. Snelten pitched a complete game in winning Game 2, allowing two earned runs and seven hits on the way to his fourth win of the season. He struck out three.

T.J. Oakes started in the first game and got a no-decision. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, scattered six hits and struck out six.

Tom Windle saw his longest appearance in relief. Although he took the loss in the 11-inning game, Windle pitched well in his four innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out four.

Kevin Kray pitched in the bottom of the 11th inning and had two walks.

Gophers softball The Gophers softball team had a historical day at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in sweeping a doubleheader from 20th-ranked Michigan.

Sara Moulton struck out 10 for the Gophers (28-15, 7-7 Big Ten) in a 1-0 victory over the Wolverines (31-13, 11-3) in the first game, and Erica Meyer belted a home run. Game 2 began 2 1/2 hours later, because of a rain delay, but the U kept the momentum, winning 6-4.

It marked the first time since 1999 that the Gophers beat the Wolverines twice in a season.

Swarm beats Wings The Swarm beat the Philadelphia Wings 15-10 at Xcel Energy Center for its third National League Lacrosse victory in a row. The Swarm is 5-2 at home and swept the season series against the Wings. The Swarm played in front of its largest crowd of the year, announced at 9,357.

"The guys just don't quit," coach Joe Sullivan said. "Other teams say it's because we're young, but I truly believe that we've come together as a group."
