The Gophers' six-game baseball winning streak ended Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Maryland at Siebert Field.

Minnesota (20-11, 5-2 Big Ten) was held to nine hits. Micah Coffey and Toby Hanson each had an RBI single for the Gophers.

Dalton Sawyer took the loss, giving up three earned runs and four hits in seven innings.

Maryland (19-16, 5-3) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on two hits and a wild pitch.

U softball dominates

Paige Palkovich hit a three-run double in the first inning and Nikki Anderson pitched a four-hitter as the Gophers routed Rutgers 8-0 in Piscataway, N.J., in Big Ten softball.

Sam Macken hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Sara Groenewegen hit a solo shot in the sixth for the No. 21 Gophers (29-12, 10-3 Big Ten).

U's Mable places

Gophers senior Lindsay Mable finished fifth in the all-around (39.5375) at the NCAA gymnastics championships in Fort Worth, Texas. She also was tied for fourth on the uneven parallel bars (9.9000) and tied for ninth in floor exercise (9.8875). Classmate Hanna Nordquist tied for fourth on the balance beam (9.9125).

• At the men's NCAA meet at Ohio State, the Gophers placed sixth (424.400), led by Zach Liebler, who tied for seventh in vault and tied for eighth in floor exercise with teammate Joel Gagnon. Justin Karstadt was eighth on the pommel horse.

U.S. routs Sweden

Six different players scored as the U.S. team routed Sweden 6-1 in the U18 world championships in Grand Forks, N.D. Casey Mittelstadt, a junior at Eden Prairie High School, gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead.

Kieffer Bellows, an Edina native, made it 2-0 on a breakaway early in the second. Gophers recruit Ryan Lindgren made it 3-0. Joey Anderson of Roseville had the sixth goal.

Awards night at Hilton

The Minnesota chapter of the National Football Foundation's annual awards dinner is Sunday evening at the Hilton Minneapolis.

The Vikings will present their team awards. Among other awards presented will be the College Impact Player of the Year to Joshua Gordon of Minnesota State Mankato, and the Distinguished Minnesotan Award to Stan Nelson of Augsburg College.

• The Gophers women's golf team finished sixth in the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif. Heather Ciskowski and Muyu Wu tied for 23rd with 6-over 222s. … The men's golf team is tied for 12th in the Hawkeye Invitational.
