A slightly edited news release from Minnesota State Mankato on their sweep:

Minnesota State scored the first two goals of the game and then held on for a 3-2 win over visiting Michigan Tech in a WCHA game Saturday in Mankato. The Mavericks beat Tech 5-2 on Friday so this was their first sweep over a conference opponent since beating the Gophers 6-2 and 3-1 on Jan. 30-31 last season.

That Mavs' sweep of the Gophers was their first ever. There were 29 penalties combined in the first game in Mankato. MSU broke that game open with five goals on nine shots in the second period, one on a power play, one short-handed. The Mavs scored another shorty and an empty-netter in the second game at Mariucci.

On Saturday, the Mavericks got even-strength goals from senior forwards Kael Mouillierat and Zach Harrison three minutes apart early in the first period with Mouillierat's goal coming at 1:22 and Harrison's at 4:45 to take a 2-0 lead.

The two teams battled through a scoreless second period before combining for three goals in the third period. Mouillierat got his second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, at 3:16. Tech's Anthony Schooley beat MSU sophomore Austin Lee at 16:26. Then at 19:47, with its goaltender sitting on the bench for an extra attacker, Tech's Drew Dobson put the puck past Lee low on the right side to make it a one-goal game.

The Mavericks, who owned a 30-24 advantage in shots on goal, were scoreless in four power play chances as were the Huskies.

MSU is 6-7-1 overall, 4-7-1 in WCHA. The Mavs have a home-and-home series with the University of Minnesota Friday and Saturday.
