University of Minnesota men's basketball senior walk-on Darin Haugh will receive a scholarship for the 2016-17 season, the team announced on Friday.

The Gophers had one additional scholarship available after graduate Charles Buggs decided to transfer for his last season of eligibility in late May – late in the recruitment process.

"[Haugh] has been the epitome of an outstanding student-athlete on and off the court the two years he has been here," coach Richard Pitino said in a release. "He is hard-working, loyal and a great teammate."

The Prior Lake native, who transferred from Bethany Lutheran after his sophomore year, sat out the 2014-15 season due to transfer rules. Last season, the 5-10 guard played spot minutes in six games, scoring one basket.

Hopkins' Steph Sharp remains on the team as a walk-on. Last season, Sharp took over at point guard for the final four games of the season with guards Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer all suspended, averaging 13.5 points in those games. The rising sophomore made appearances in 11 other games.
