Gophers replay

No. 14 Wisconsin 34, No. 22 Gophers 24

The recap: The Gophers led 17-3, but Wisconsin reeled off 24 consecutive points. Mitch Leidner's second touchdown run trimmed the Badgers' lead to 27-24 midway through the fourth quarter, but Joel Stave's second touchdown pass sealed it for Wisconsin.

What was learned: Melvin Gordon rushed for 151 yards, but that was 40 below his average. The ones who hurt the Gophers most were Stave (215 passing yards), Alex Erickson (160 receiving yards) and Corey Clement (89 rushing yards on seven carries.)

YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED:

• Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen noted the pounding the Gophers gave Gordon. "I thought he was unbelievably tough-minded in some tough sledding," Andersen said. "Those guys were good tacklers. They're physical tacklers."

• Gophers junior Peter Mortell averaged 51.0 yards on his seven punts. He led all Big Ten punters in the regular season with a 45.5-yard average and is a likely all-conference selection Monday.

• BTN.com named its 24-player All-Big Ten team Sunday, and the Gophers had five selections: Mortell, tight end Maxx Williams, center Tommy Olson, linebacker Damien Wilson and cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun. David Cobb didn't make the list, as there were only two running back spots, and Gordon and Tevin Coleman are both 2,000-yard rushers.
