For those of you waiting impatiently for the men’s basketball schedule to come out, you won’t have to sweat much longer. According to a team source, the schedule will be officially released tomorrow sans times or TV assignments.
Parts of the 31-game schedule (13 non-conference; 18 conference) have already been revealed as far as the non-conference games go, through other teams’ released schedules.
The Gophers will play against American on Nov. 9, against Duke on Nov. 22 to start out the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, Memphis or VCU in the second round (Nov. 23), at FSU on November 27, against North Florida on Dec. 1, at USC on Dec. 8 and against North Dakota State on Dec. 11.
But the real interest, of course, will be in the Big Ten portion of the schedule. Where will the Gophers travel and not travel this season? Which teams will they get at home?
This is Amelia Rayno's fifth season on the Gophers men's basketball beat. She learned college basketball in North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!), where fanhood is not an option. In 2010, she joined the Star Tribune after graduating from Boston's Emerson College, which sadly had no exciting D-I college hoops to latch onto. Amelia has also worked on the sports desk at the Boston Globe and interned at the Detroit News. Follow Rayno on Twitter @AmeliaRayno.
The question now is whether Minnesota can move past a bad long weekend and pick up some steam through the rest of this month and next – or whether a not-so-easy slate between now and New Year's will put the Gophers on the path toward the basement.
