In the "no good deed goes unpunished" department comes the tale of Peg Meier of Minneapolis, who was vacationing in Savannah, Ga., last month and noticed a stray $50 in a Bank of America ATM machine.

Meier took the receipt and contacted the bank. The response was a grumpy request to mail in the cash and the receipt. Meier asked if she could send a check. No, she was told.

Knowing how contentious the issue of found money is to our readers, Whistleblower put Meier's dilemma to Bank of America.

"We apologize to the good Samaritan for an experience that was not in keeping with the bank's commitment to courteous and professional demeanor in all interactions," said Bank of America spokeswoman Christina Beyer Toth. Toth said the bank doesn't have a policy that covers the unusual situation, other than making every effort to return misplaced cash.

I will let you know how the found cash caper is resolved. But would you mail cash?
