Good riddance to traffic light at 494 and 169

Here is a cause for celebration for anybody who passes through the congestion-prone intersection of Hwy. 169 and I-494 in Bloomington.

Tuesday night, the new flyover ramp from westbound 494 to northbound Hwy. 169 opened to traffic. With a smoother connection to the roads, drivers also will notice - and probably appreciate - that the traffic light that governed the intersection is gone.

The last link of the reconstruction project will be the ramp from northbound 169 to westbound 494. That ramp will remain open for now, but reconstruction work will be in progress. Look for that ramp to close later this month.

Last week the flyover ramp from eastbound 494 to southbound 169 opened.
