No. 1 has produced nothing but defeat for its occupant this hockey season. In Week 1, No. 1 UMass-Lowell lost. In Week 2, No. 1 Miami (Ohio) lost. This week the No. 1 Gophers will be put to the test in the top spot.

No. 5 Boston College comes to town for a Friday and Sunday two-game series and is coming off a walloping of then No. 2-ranked Wisconsin.

During Wednesday's media availability coach Don Lucia said its irrelevant what Boston College did last weekend, however, he couldn't ignore the nine 5-on-5 goals the Eagles scored in two games. Gophers fans are in for a treat, he said.

"They're going to be skilled, fast, strong," Gophers defenseman Brady Skjei said. "We're going to need to play our game and use our speed, and I think we'll be able to play tight with them the whole weekend. "

Sophomore forward Christian Horn is no longer with the Gophers. He told Lucia on Wednesday morning that he would be leaving the team for a chance to play more.

Horn said he will play with Tri City in the USHL and left the Gophers on good terms. There's a chance that he could return to the Gophers after this season, Lucia said.

"I understand completely. He wants to play. He's still a young kid has an opportunity to go to the USHL, Lucia said. "He's a great kid. Loved having him around program, but at the same time I understand, you're a young kid and want to play. And I think he had pretty long odds to be a regular in our lineup this year."
