Gaza fire tempts Israeli retaliation

A third day of bruising rocket fire by Gaza militants into southern Israel is increasing internal pressure on the Israeli government to retaliate.

BY THE NUMBERS

•A million Israelis are in range of the rockets.

•More than 110 rockets have hit Israeli towns since the latest round began on Saturday.

•Three civilians have been injured, dozens have been treated for shock.

•Six Palestinians have died and dozens have been injured in counterattacks by Israel.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE

• "We'll take whatever action is necessary to put a stop to this," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Defense Minister Ehud Barak met with military and other senior officials to discuss options.

•An unnamed Egyptian official said efforts were underway to achieve a truce. ASSOCIATED PRESS
