Hot stock: Shares in Nortek rose 40 percent to $87.06 Wednesday after the maker of heating and ventilation systems for buildings agreed to be acquired by Melrose Industries PLC for $86 per share, or $1.4 billion. Nortek stock closed the week at $87.25.

WhiteWave swept up: Organic food maker WhiteWave Foods jumped 19 percent to $56.35 Thursday after French yogurt giant Danone agreed to buy the company for $56.25 a share, or about $10 billion. WhiteWave closed the week at $56.64.

AVG locked down: Dutch anti-virus software company AVG Technologies surged 31 percent to $24.66 Thursday after rival Avast Software agreed to buy it for $25 a share, or $1.3 billion. AVG stock closed the week at $24.63.

Wild west: Hard-drive maker Western Digital's shares rose 5 percent to $47.76 Thursday after it forecast stronger results for its fiscal fourth quarter following the acquisition of flash memory chipmaker SanDisk in May. Western Digital stock closed Friday at $49.35.
