Gophers hope they can be second visitor to get a victory at Penn State

Preview: The Gophers (13-4, 2-2 Big Ten) ended their first two-game losing streak of the season with an 83-77 victory over Michigan State on Sunday. The Gophers scored 29 points off 23 Michigan State turnovers. The Nittany Lions (10-7, 1-3) are coming off a 70-65 loss at then-No. 25 Rutgers on Saturday — their fourth loss in past five games. The Nittany Lions are 7-1 at home.

Players to watch: Gophers G Kenisha Bell is the only player ranked in the top 20 nationally in points (20.9) and assists (6.5) per game. Bell is 20th in scoring and 13th in assists. Senior C Bryanna Fernstrom, who has started the last two games for the Gophers, had 14 points and seven rebounds on Sunday. Junior G Teniya Page, who missed the Nittany Lions' first five games because of injury, is averaging 16.7 points in 12 games. Sophomore G Amari Carter is averaging 15.4 points while sophomore G Jaida Travascio-Green is averaging 12 points.

Numbers: The Nittany Lions are limiting opponents to 38.6 percent shooting from the field. The Gophers have won five of past seven meetings between the two. The teams split two meetings last season — the Gophers lost at Penn State 77-66 on Feb. 8 before defeating the Nittany Lions 70-64 in the first round of the Big Ten tournament at Indianapolis. Page scored 35 (tied for the third-most in tournament history) in the loss.
