Instruction at Litchfield High School and other schools in the district will end early on Friday to allow students, teachers and staff to attend a funeral for a 16-year-old junior who crashed his car over the weekend and died.

Marcus Huhn, a member of the varsity basketball team, drifted off a Meeker County road in nearby Darwin Township about 9:25 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities.

The car went into a ditch, struck a field approach and rolled over, the Sheriff's Office said.

Emergency responders found Huhn, who was not wearing a seat belt, thrown from the car. He died soon after at a nearby hospital.

The memorial service in the gym where Huhn and his fellow Litchfield Dragons played is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., with a visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. The middle school and high school will end instruction at 1 p.m., while Lake Ripley Elementary's day will end at 12:45 p.m.

A visitation is also scheduled for Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, with a parish prayer service to follow. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, next to the church.
