SEOUL, South Korea — A funeral has been held for an activist for men's rights who died after jumping in South Korea's Han River in a publicity stunt gone awry.
Sung Jae-gi's funeral ended Thursday. Rescuers on Monday found the body of the advocate, who pushed for more male rights in a country that is already heavily dominated by men.
Before he jumped Friday, Sung posted an online request for donations to pay off his organization's debt and an announcement that he planned to jump in the river as a publicity stunt. Fellow activists told reporters that Sung wasn't trying to kill himself.
Rescuers say a recently opened dam and heavy rain created stronger-than-normal currents.
The 45-year-old Sung pushed for the abolition of the gender ministry and greater compensation for men's mandatory military service.
