The main story for Floridians this week is a powerful rainstorm capable ofdrenching some areas with locally as much as a foot of rain. However, not longago these same areas were in the midst of a severe drought.Below are some rainfall totals in the region from April 1 to May 10. Duringthis timeframe, Fort Myers can usually expect 2.22 inches of rainfall, but onlyreceived 13 percent of that amount this year. Meanwhile, Miami, Tampa andOrlando all had 50 percent or less of their normal rainfall. Melbourne was thewettest of these cities, with merely 71 percent of their typicalprecipitation.
