St. Paul City Conference teams do well at state tourney

• STATE TOURNAMENT: The St. Paul City Conference claimed three of the four singles titles Friday in the adapted bowling state tournament at Brunswick Zone in Brooklyn Park.

St. Paul Johnson swept the singles championships in the CI division. Senior Dwight Johnson won the boys' title with a 508 while junior Veronica Hodges earned the girls' crown with a 473.

St. Paul Humboldt senior Tony Campanaro posted a 503 to garner the boys' championship in the PI division.

Simley senior Abby Cochran recorded the highest series of the day with a 518 to win the girls' title. Her total helped the Spartans win the team championship as well.

Minneapolis North's tandem of senior Ronnie Kennedy and sophomore Dushon Spicer won the doubles title in the CI division with a 869.

Austin sophomore Kaylee McDermott and freshman Rachel Cook took first place in doubles in the PI division with a 901.

Lake City won the team championship in the CI division.

Red Knights earn shutout

• BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 3, IRONDALE 0: Junior Jimmy Cron tossed a one-hit shutout as the Red Knights beat the Knights in the North Suburban Conference. Cron struck out eight. Two of the Red Knights' runs were unearned.

• MOUNDS VIEW 5, HASTINGS 0: Nebraska recruit Max Knutson blanked the Raiders on one hit as the Mustangs won the Suburban East matchup.
