Mariota shaky, Cobb sharp for Titans in loss to Falcons
• ATLANTA 31, TENNESSEE 24: Tennessee rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota, whose first two drives ended with an interception and a fumble, recovered to lead a touchdown drive in the Titans' loss to the Falcons in Atlanta on Friday night. Titans rookie running back David Cobb, a former Gopher, made an argument for the starting job by rushing 11 times for 53 yards. Atlanta's Matt Ryan completed all six passes for 86 yards on his only possession.
• CAROLINA 25, BUFFALO 24: Joe Webb's short pass to running back Brandon Wegher led to a 42-yard touchdown with 54 seconds left in rallying the visiting Panthers to a victory over the Bills. Webb, a former Viking and the Panthers' third-string QB, then hit Paul Browning for a two-point conversion to seal the victory. LeSean McCoy rushed six times for 16 yards in his Bills preseason debut.
• CINCINNATI 23, N.Y. GIANTS 20: Andy Dalton completed all three of his passes, and the Bengals' starting offense was impressive in its only drive during a victory over the visiting Giants. Eli Manning and New York's starters stayed on the field until early in the second quarter, managing only one first down and 38 yards in four series.
• JACKSONVILLE 23, PITTSBURGH 21: Blake Bortels completed 11 of 15 passes for 118 yards and rushed for a TD in the host Jaguars' victory. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 3-for-3 with a 44-yard TD pass. Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas suffered a broken left hand and likely will miss the rest of the preseason, coach Gus Bradley said.
• DENVER 22, SEATTLE 20: Brock Osweiler completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards and a TD, leading the visiting Broncos to scores on all five first-half possessions in a victory over the Seahawks. Seattle backup QB Tarvaris Jackson suffered an ankle injury and was taken to the locker room on a cart in the third quarter.
• OAKLAND 18, ST. LOUIS 3: Derek Carr completed three passes to rookie receiver Amari Cooper on an opening field-goal drive and the Raiders beat the visiting Rams in their exhibition opener under new coach Jack Del Rio.
