Freak Winter Heat Wave in Argentina

It was hot enough to be the middle of summer late last week in the heart ofArgentina even with the calendar showing more than three weeks remaining in theSouthern Hemisphere winter. A shot of tropical heat drawn unusually farsouthward hiked temperatures 30 degrees above normal in the city of BuenosAires and elsewhere.Even though normal high temperatures for late August are in the lower 60s,readings topped 80 degrees at midweek, then topped out above 90 degrees duringthe weekend. Respective highs were 93 and 92 degrees Saturday and Sunday.

Elsewhere in Argentina, the mid-northern city of Cordoba reached a dramatichigh of 99 degrees Saturday. Another northern city, Santa Fe, registered aremarkable 101 degrees Sunday, notwithstanding the normal high in the upper60s.
