Local animal experts and authors will appear at the Animal Humane Society's monthly open houses from noon to 4 p.m. today. Notable guests at the Golden Valley and Woodbury shelters include local author Kevin Kling and veterinarian Michael Fox, whose pet advice column runs Saturdays in this section.

Kling will read excerpts from his book, "The Dog Says How," at 12:30 p.m. in Woodbury (9785 Hudson Rd.) and 3 p.m. in Golden Valley (845 Meadow Lane N.). At 1 p.m. in Golden Valley, Fox will discuss his books on the healing touch for dogs and cats. Fox speaks to audiences worldwide about animal welfare and health.

Local experts are also scheduled to teach about therapy dogs, animal cruelty cases and rescue operations and to give advice on pets. Crafts and games will be available for children.
