It was technically a bit early in the season to give thanks, but that didn't stop the Emergency Food Shelf Network from honoring its volunteers.

Under a tent outside its New Hope headquarters and warehouse space, people from across the community recently gathered to, very appropriately, share a meal.

The organization services more than 230 food shelves, on-site meal programs, subsidized housing and other hunger relief programs statewide. "They're the heart and hands in the community," said Suzann Eisenberg Murray, interim executive director.

Awards also were handed out to some surprised members, including John Mitchell, the operations manager, who was recognized for "20 years of dedicated service." He didn't need a plaque to appreciate his work's value as "being able to help people," he said. "It's all about helping our agencies feed our clients."
