The attached is a photo of my husband and I on a hot air balloon ride on the Kulala Wilderness Reserve in Namibia Africa on September 2017. We took a 2.5 week African safari to Namibia and Botswana in celebration of my birthday. The equipment: A Nikon D5500 with 16-300 lens.

THE Traveler: Nancy Weidenfeller of Minnetonka.

The scene: Hot air balloons sail over the ancient red dunes of the Namib Desert at sunrise. The sandy landscape stretches inland from the Atlantic Ocean, covering a vast swath of Namibia's coast and reaching into South Africa and Angola.

The Trip: Weidenfeller and her husband, Steve, took a hot-air balloon ride in the Kulala Wilderness Reserve of Namibia in September. The high-flying event, planned by Steve, was part of a 2½-week African safari to Namibia and Botswana in celebration of Nancy's birthday.

How she got this shot: While Weidenfeller had a Nikon D5500 with 16-300mm lens along on the trip, she was worried about dropping it from the balloon. This photo was taken with her iPhone.
