Break that 'cabin fever' and venture south to some open river for some fly fishing. Prince nymph or Pheasant Tail do quite well for browns or rainbow.

The drive along the river prompted us to pull over and view the bald eagles flying over open water for their food. What a site! The trees with their bare branches were dotted with lots of 'white' dots. Watching them take flight made for great pictures and also exciting to watch them swoop down to get their meal for the day. Make sure you stop at the Wabasha Eagle Center to see the fabulous thing they have on display.

Fly fishing in 30 degree weather is perfect condition to rig up your gear and cast your lines for those elusive trout. Nymping off the bottom seems to work well and their bite is ever so subtle. An indicator is a must and any hesitation on the line...........set your hook.

I must confess I did not get my line wet because I was too busy trying out my new camera and took lots of pics of the ladies. There were others fishing around the area - one with his dog (I had a hard time watching that because he was in the water and didn't think that was a good idea to let him walk the river) and another catching a fish with each cast.

Lunch at Elba House in Elba, MN. Great place to hang out and exchange fish stories.

In the meantime, keep those fish lines wet!
