Florida safety Claudin Cherelus commits to Gophers

Claudin Cherelus, a consensus two-star recruit, is the 11th player to commit to the Gophers football team for the Class of 2017.

Claudin Cherelus, a safety from Naples, Fla., announced Tuesday night that he has picked Minnesota, giving the Gophers their 11th verbal commitment for the class of 2017.

The 6-2, 195-pound Cherelus is a consensus two-star recruit who also had reported offers from Northern Illinois, Samford and UMass.

It's worth noting that the Gophers also landed Damarius Travis, a similar-sized safety out of Florida five years ago. Travis also had no other Power Five conference offers, yet Travis has turned out to be one of Minnesota's best players.
