Americans haven't felt this good since June.'s just-released December Financial Security Index found consumers feel better than they have in months about job security, savings, debt, net worth, and general financial well being.

While there are signs of improvement, December's index of 95.8 is still lower than the 97.8 measured in June. Anything below 100 still shows people are feeling less secure than they were at this time last year.

“2011 was not a year of progress in terms of consumers’ financial security,” Greg McBride,'s senior financial analyst said in a statement.

Interestingly, Americans under age 30 felt most secure about several areas, including savings, job security and overall financial health. The 50-64 age group was most pessimistic in those three areas.

Additionally, Americans who earn less feel less secure than Americans who earn more.

I wonder how people will feel when the credit card bills come due in January?

How do you feel about the economy? Do you think 2012 will be better than 2011? What will it take for consumer confidence to return for good?
