The Minnesota Football Coaches Association on Tuesday released the list of the 10 finalists for the Mr. Football award.

The finalists are Isaac Collins, Maple Grove, RB/DB; Carter Coughlin, Eden Prairie, LB; Logan Hatfield, Bemidji, RB; Amani Hooker, Park Center, QB/WR/DB; Tyler Johnson, Minneapolis North, QB/FS; Kamal Martin, Burnsville, QB/LB; David McCuskey, Orono, RB; Bishop McDonald, North St. Paul, DB/RB; Dillon Radunz, Becker, OL/DL; and J.D. Spielman, Eden Prairie, RB/DB.

The Mr. Football award has been given since 2004 to the senior player voted by MFCA members as the state's top player. Hutchinson's Robbie Grimsley won the award in 2014.

Preseason girls' hockey rankings

Two west metro private school powers earned the top two spots in the preseason Class 1A girls' hockey state rankings as determined by Let's Play Hockey magazine.

Blake, runner-up to Thief River Falls in the 2015 Class 1A tournament, was ranked No. 1, with Breck at No. 2. Blake defeated Breck 3-2 in overtime in last year's Class 1A, Section 5 final.

Orono was ranked No. 8 in 1A and Mound Westonka No. 13.

In Class 2A, West Metro teams earned the Nos. 2 through 6 ranking. Defending champ Hill-Murray was ranked No. 1, followed by Minnetonka, Edina, Maple Grove, Wayzata and Eden Prairie. Buffalo was ranked No. 13 and Chaska/Chanhassen No. 14.

Odd and ends

• Presley Norby, a senior forward for the Minnetonka girls' hockey team, played with Team USA in the Four Nations Cup in Sweden over weekend. Norby, the lone high school player on the roster, was a second Team All-Metro selection last year and has committed to Wisconsin.

• Monday is the first day of Minnesota State High School League-sanctioned practices in Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, gymnastics, boys' hockey and boys' basketball.
