FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — An apartment fire that injured two firefighters in downtown Fergus Falls is out.

Fergus Falls Fire Chief Mark Hovland says crews were cleaning up the glass and debris and watching for any remaining hot spots by midday Monday.

Capt. Chad Nelson says crews were called at around 10:20 p.m. Sunday and didn't get it under control until around sunrise. He says one firefighter broke his arm and was expected to need surgery. Another was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Five families were displaced from apartments above some businesses but all got out safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters believe it started in an attic and burned through the roof.

Five shops have been closed — three indefinitely and two pending inspections.
