Police are searching for a possible suspect in the suspicious death of a Maplewood female.

About 4:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities were called to McKnight Road and Ripley Avenue on a report of a person requiring medical attention, according to Maplewood police.

The body of a female victim was found at the scene. Maplewood Acting Police Chief Dave Kvam declined to provide further details about where and in what condition the victim was found, but he said it appeared likely that she had been violently assaulted. Her identity was being withheld pending notification of family members.

A witness told police that a man was seen running from the scene. He was described as white, approximately 5 feet 9, with blond, spiked hair. He was wearing black sweatpants and a white hoodie-style sweatshirt with a green and red design on it. Anyone who may know or have seen the suspect is asked to contact Maplewood police through the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center at 651-767-0640.

Maplewood police, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, are investigating.
