The company peddling "Tested Green" promised to give business owners a coveted environmental stamp of approval for the price of $549.99, or just $189.95 for a "rapid certify."

All entrepreneurs had to do was hand over the green, apparently. On Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that it had ordered Tested Green of Washington, D.C., to stop deceiving customers by claiming firms were subjected to some kind of environmental certification when they weren't. The National Green Business Association and the National Association of Government Contractors, two groups that supposedly stood behind Tested Green, were created by Tested Green's owner, Jeremy Ryan Claeys.

The action was part of the FTC's continuing crackdown on phony green credentials.
