Brett Favre caused a stir among his former teammates from the Packers 1996 Super Bowl championship team when he said this year's Vikings are the best team he's played on in his 19 NFL seasons. That comment came after the Vikings had improved to 5-0 with a victory over the St. Louis Rams.

So with the Vikings now sitting at 8-1 and Favre playing some of the best football of his career, does the quarterback feel any vindication? Favre says no and that he simply said what he felt, just as he did a few years back when he predicted a Packers team coming off an 8-8 finish could be outstanding.

"Everybody thought I was crazy and then we went 13-3 [in 2007]," Favre said. "I believed it. I believe that about this team. Is it the '96 team? No. I'll say that over and over again. This team has a long ways to go to ever equal that. It doesn't mean we can't be as good or on paper we're not as good. I've heard some of the comments, 'Jared Allen's not Reggie White.' No he's not. He'd be the first to tell you that. But it is a good team. Does it have its flaws? Sure. Every team in this league does. And we'll face adversity along the way, have faced some adversity. We have handled most of it pretty well.

"But how we go on from here remains to be seen, but as I felt the first day here I knew what this team was capable of. I know what I'm capable of. There's no guarantees. But I don't feel vindicated. I'm not surprised that this team has had the success it has had. But that's up to now; it has nothing to do with the future. I don't know if it continues but I'm not surprised by it. The people who said, 'He's crazy,' at least up to this point they don't have really a leg to stand on. They are waiting. They are almost waiting for us to fail or waiting for me to fail. I totally understand that and that's OK."

On another note, coach Brad Childress said he expects cornerback Antoine Winfield to be full go at practice today. Winfield has missed the past three-plus games because of a foot injury and did limited work in practice last week.

"We'll see what kind of full practice it is," Childress said. "Part of his rehabilitation is the functional stuff. Getting in the lines and going through the defensive back drills and getting out here and going through the one-on-ones and again his body will talk to him in terms of what he can and can't do but he's kind of green-lighted here now. It remains to be seen whether he can make it to Sunday or not. I know that's his goal. He's going to push it as hard as he can and we'll just see."

We will have the first injury report of the week later this afternoon.
