If you have waited to the last few weeks or so to purchase a Father's Day gift, I have a few ideas. From one tool lover to another, here are some of my choices for 2015:

I recently discovered a battery-operated, motion-activated spotlight that can be set up in just a few minutes, with no wires, to provide immediate security. My first thought was of campers having two, three or four of the lights set on poles to warn of trespassers or straying animals. The lights are also handy for lighting trails, sheds, patios, closets, etc. The NetBright Spotlights each require three D-cell batteries and when one light comes on, a signal is sent to activate the other nearby lights, brightly illuminating the entire area with 200 Lumens at each light. The suggested retail price is $79.99 for a two-pack solution. Information can be found at mrbeams.com/netbright.

Working dads like saws for large or small jobs. Here are two that will fit the woodworker's kit:

Rockwell's Compact Circular Saw, at just 5 pounds, is half the weight of a full-size circular saw, and its 4½-inch blade can cut a 2-by-4 in a single pass. It's small enough for easy storage, yet strong enough to get the job done. The compact circular saw retails for $99.99 and is available at Lowe's, Menards and Amazon or online at rockwelltools.com.

DeWalt recently introduced a cordless, 20V MAX, Lithium Ion 7 ¼-inch Sliding Miter Saw (DCS361). The cordless miter saw can be used anywhere, anytime. The 7¼-inch blade will cut most 2-inch trim, including flooring. Suggested retail price is $399; the saw is available at Home Depot, Sears, Amazon and other retailers.

When it's time to clean the garage or shed, the StoreWall System will help keep tools and garden equipment up and off the floor. The modular system starts with the basic 15-inch by 4-foot StoreWall panels, and then various accessories are added according to your needs. Using an extruded thermoplastic material that is waterproof and mold- and mildew-resistant, the solid core panels are strong and tough. They are available in five color options and two wood grain patterns. They can be easily wiped clean and their colors and wood grains run throughout the panel so nicks and scratches won't show up. A typical 15-inch by 4-foot section retails for $35, or a heavy-duty six-panel carton that covers 30 square feet retails for $281.90, but the price will vary depending on the storage area and attachments and accessories required. You can cover part of the wall or an entire garage wall; it all depends on your needs. Panels and accessories can be found online at storewall.com.
