A passenger was killed in a car that rear-ended a semitrailer truck Sunday morning in western Minnesota, authorities said.

The wreck occurred about 7:40 a.m. on Interstate 94 near Barnesville, about 20 miles east of the Minnesota-North Dakota border, the State Patrol said.

The semi was heading west on I-94 when the car hit it from behind, the patrol said. The impact killed a front-seat passenger in the car, the patrol added.

The person killed was 30 years old and one of three men in the car from Anderson, Ind., the patrol said. The other two survived their injuries.

The semi driver and a passenger of his were not injured, the patrol said. Identities of those involved have yet to be released.

The wreck closed that side of the interstate for a few hours as debris was cleared and investigators worked on the scene.
