PARIS — Members of the public in six European countries are being given a rare glimpse into the secret inner workings of the fashion industry, as part of luxury giant LVMH's two-day open-door event.

Milliners, feather dressers, embroiderers, perfume bottlers and other artisans in 42 sites around France, Italy, Spain, Poland and the UK are revealing a little bit of their savoir-faire starting Saturday.

Among the tidbits and traditions being shared:

— Perfumers seal bottles such as Miss Dior with cow intestine to stop the scent escaping.

— Unmarried seamstresses sew a hidden strand of their own hair into haute couture bridal dresses to help them find a husband.

— Embroiderers avoid using green thread, as it brings bad luck.
