The twice elected mayor of Faribault announced Thursday that he will challenge incumbent Sen. Vicki Jensen, DFL-Owatonna.

Mayor John Jasinski is a Navy veteran and Mankato State graduate who is a vice president at a commercial real estate and property management company, according to a news release.

Jensen, serving in her first term, is considered a vulnerable incumbent because her district is represented by two House Republicans, indicating the southern Minnesota district leans GOP.

Republicans need to flip six seats to win the majority.

Jensen serves on Commerce, Education, Transporation Committees.
