Frances McDormand studies the evidence/coutesy of Gramercy Pictures

Maybe "FX" stands for "Fargo X-citement."

The channel that launched "The Shield" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will air a TV adaptation of "Fargo," the Oscar-winning film written and directed by the Coen Brothers, who will produce the series.

The project is being described as a limited series consisting of only 10 episodes. The script is by Noah Hawley, who has also written for "Bones." The show is expected to air in spring 2014. No word yet on casting.

FX also made news by announcing it would launch a sister station called FXX. Several established series, including "The League," "Legit" and "Philadelphia," will move to that channel.
