Reports flying on the Internet that world-famous pop star Justin Bieber would buy a summer home on Lake Minnetonka sounded plausible enough: He's a Canadian, and they fit in here.

The singer's fans buzzed on social media with their own plans to visit the lake this summer to search for Bieber. Some reveled in the novelty of just residing in the same area code as the Beebs — if only for the summer. Bieber's known to enjoy a good party, so it wasn't far-fetched to imagine him roaring around in a fast boat for fun.

Instead, this can be a teachable moment in the importance of reading disclaimers. The faux Bieber story was posted on a website called "MBY News," which labels its articles "satire or pure fantasy."

Still, even the fantasy story managed to rile some Minnesotans because of a sentence that said area residents have "almost no connection to the Los Angeles music industry and lifestyle."

Commentators snidely noted that world renowned music royalty lives 15 minutes away at Paisley Park in Chanhassen. In another nod to Prince and his movie Purple Rain, others wondered if he would purify himself in the lake's waters.
