While the traveling Broadway production of "Mary Poppins" hangs its umbrella at the Orpheum for a couple of weeks, the cast members made themselves right at home at the opening night party at Solera on Sept. 4. For a good reason -- they have a lot of local connections.

The original "Bert" on Broadway, actor Gavin Lee (a Brit) married into the Midwest. His wife, Emily Harvey, is originally from Redwood Falls, Minn., and some of her high school friends were planning to see the show.

Cast member Ellen Harvey, who plays the mean nanny Miss Andrews, spent a few years in the Twin Cities at Children's Theatre. "This city is my second home," she said, adding "audiences here are more artistically savvy." Music to our ears.

Fash at the Foshay Despite the fact that it's still sandal weather outside, the W Minneapolis-The Foshay gathered quite a crowd to get a glimpse at fall fashions this month. From the looks of the well-heeled attendees, they won't need much sartorial help as seasons change.
