A former assistant wrestling coach at Woodbury High School has been charged with a gross misdemeanor after five athletes reported that he brought a case of beer to their St. Paul hotel room during the state tournament.

David B. Albrecht, 21, was not an employee of the South Washington County School District and is no longer coaching at the high school, district officials said during the investigation in March.

Albrecht was charged last week by the St. Paul city attorney's office with furnishing alcohol to a minor.

According to court documents, the school's head wrestling coach told police that he rented five rooms on two floors at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown St. Paul for the tournament. The high school wrestlers told a Woodbury police officer that Albrecht came to their room about 11 p.m. Feb. 29 with two high school girls and a case of beer.

The complaint said Albrecht, the only one of legal drinking age, drank several beers and repeatedly offered it to the students.
