Ex-Pennsylvania fire official is Brooklyn Park's new fire chief

July 22, 2008 at 2:29AM

A Brooklyn Park fire chief was appointed Monday night at the City Council meeting.

Kenneth Prillaman was selected from eight candidates who were interviewed to be the city's seventh fire chief.

Prillaman, 48, worked at the Paxtonia Fire Co. in Harrisburg, Pa., for seven years, holding the positions of president, lieutenant and assistant chief during his time there.

He is replacing Fire Chief Steve Schmidt, whose last day with the department will be Aug. 1.

Prillaman has also worked in financial services for 24 years, most recently running his own consulting firm, Transition Partners. He moved to Minnesota about a year ago.

The Brooklyn Park Fire Department has more than 70 firefighters. Prillaman will start his job Monday as the only full-time position in the department.
