Ex-Cretin-Derham Hall player among finalists for major award

Denver senior forward Brandon Vossberg is among seven finalists -- five men, two women -- for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.

Denver senior forward Brandon Vossberg is among seven finalists -- five men, two women -- for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.

Vossberg, a 2003 graduate of Cretin-Derham Hall, has received the Pioneers' Most Active in the Community Service Award for three years in a row.

He is a two-time pick for the WCHA all-academic team and wants to be a doctor. His major is psychology.

At DU, Vossberg has:

* volunteered ay Denver's Children's Hospital during the holidays at the Make-a-Wish store

* worked with the Starlight Starbright Foundations which helps terminally ill children

* coached a Denver youth hockey team

* helped with a kids' skating program

* this spring he plans to work with the Bridge Project which helps inner city students acheive their academic potential.

At Cretin-Derham Hall, Vossberg played football, soccer, hockey and tennis.

He is 6-2, 205, turns 25 on Monday -- Happy Birthday Brandon. In 29 games, Vossberg has one goal five assists for six points.

The winner will be named on Friday, April 9 at Ford Field in Detroit as part of the men's Frozen Four and the NCAA skills challenge. Vossberg, of course, hopes to be playing that weekend. DU is the top-rated team in Division I hockey.
