Emmer doesn't like the recount plan

His attorneys proposed changes to the plan Thursday afternoon. The canvassing board is slated to order a gubernatorial recount on Tuesday

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer's folks have decided they'd like some changes to the planned vote recount.

"We are requesting that the State Canvassing Board be the only body to decide the merits of a ballot challenge during the recount in accordance with state law. Additionally, we are requesting that local recount officials be directed to reconcile the number of ballots with the number of signatures present on the election day roster (both pre-registered voters and same-day registrants), as required by Minnesota Statute," Republican Party chairman Tony Sutton said in a release Thursday.

The party, on Emmer's behalf, asked for changes to the plan in a letter signed by attorney Eric Magnuson. Magnuson is a former chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court and served on the 2008 canvassing board, which handled the Coleman-Franken U.S. Senate recount.

Magnuson said in the letter that he would appear at the first canvassing board meeting Nov. 23 to argue his points.

Currently, Democrat Mark Dayton leads Emmer by 8,755 votes.
