A 32-year-old Elko New Market man was arrested Monday after a report of an intoxicated male firing a gun into the ground in the Scott County city.

When officers arrived, they were told that a 7-week-old baby was in the residence the man had entered, according to a Scott County Sheriff's Office news release. Neighbors were asked to stay inside, and the Tri City Tactical Team responded along with a State Patrol helicopter.

The tactical team used a robot to search the residence. An adult man was found sleeping on the couch, and the child was reunited with her mother unharmed, the release said.

The man is being held in the Scott County Jail on suspicion of second-degree child endangerment and gross misdemeanor domestic assault, according to the release.

Several other agencies assisted with the incident, which remains under investigation.
