May is here. Glance outside and it might be confused for March, but we're already halfway through the cavalcade of spring athletics despite not having experienced a 70-degree day in more than two weeks (71 on April 15, according to the National Weather Service). By the end of the month, we'll be well into the postseason.

While there's the usual slate of high profile baseball and softball games this week, the focus this week is on the tennis court. On Saturday in the annual Edina Invitational, the most accomplished boys' field this side of the state tournament will compete in an eight-team bracket that includes the No. 1 teams in each class — Minnetonka in 2A, Blake in 1A — along with East Ridge, Lakeville South, Mounds View, Rochester Century, Wayzata and the host Hornets.

The first two rounds are scattered across the metro at various sites, but the finals are set for the Edina Community Center at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Elsewhere this week:

Baseball

Monday: Waconia at Holy Family, 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Eastview at Lakeville North, 4:30 p.m. A battle for first place in the South Suburban Conference. Lakeville North rallied for an 8-7 victory over Eastview in their first meeting on April 12.

Friday: Wayzata at Champlin Park, 4:30 p.m. The last time these two met was in the 2016 Class 4A championship game. Wayzata is No. 1 in 4A ; Champlin Park has dropped two in a row.

Boys' tennis

Monday: Minnetonka at Blake, 4 p.m. It's looking likely that this matchup of No. 1s will be postponed because of weather, but there's a very good chance they will meet Saturday in the finals of the Edina Invitational.

Softball

Tuesday: Anoka at Blaine, 4:30 p.m. The lead in the Northwest Suburban is on the line. Anoka is 8-0 while Blaine (7-1) lost for the first time Saturday (6-5 to Superior, Wis.).

Wednesday: Prior Lake at Farmington, 4:30 p.m. Each has just one loss: To the other. This one will decide the season series and likely the South Suburban race.

Saturday: Eastview tournament (Bloomington Jefferson, Eagan, Hermantown, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Proctor, Rogers, Eastview); Lakeville North Panther Classic (Andover, Centennial, Eden Prairie, Elk River, Faribault, Lake-ville South, North St. Paul, Tartan, Visitation, Wayzata, Woodbury and Lakeville North).
