A plan to build affordable, energy-efficient houses in Eden Prairie is moving forward with a neighborhood meeting next week.

The Eden Gardens development is slated to have 36 energy-efficient homes on 8 acres of vacant land near Hwy. 212, off Eden Prairie Road and Scenic Heights Road, a majority of which would be priced at $240,000 to $360,000 to draw more moderate incomes.

The city will hold the neighborhood meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Cedar Ridge Elementary School. The developer, Hopkins-based Homestead Partners, will give an update on the construction process, project timeline and design concepts.

Some nearby residents have voiced concern about the homes not fitting in with their larger, more expensive ones nearby and fear the development could add traffic to a dead-end street.

A formal plan with cost estimates is expected in November, followed by public hearings. If the city approves it, work could start next spring.
