We're less than an hour into the four-day run of the state wrestling tourney at Xcel Energy Center, and we've already seen a somewhat surprising result.
Simley senior Dylan Wright, a Class 2A runner-up last year at 112 pounds, was defeated in the first round at 119 by sophomore Drake Borsgard of Windom/Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.
The biggest scare for a defending champion came at 112 in 2A, when Thief River Falls junior Jacoby Bergeron needed four overtimes to hold off St. Paul Johnson junior Wesley Azariah 4-3.
Drew Fleming, a senior and top-ranked defending champion from Watertown-Mayer, advanced through the first round and will face third-ranked Sam Warne of Perham in the next round today.
